About the role

The Skills Trainer at LifeWorks NW provides skills training to children and adolescents experiencing mental health issues and behavioral problems. This position is based at LifeWorks NW's King site and offers competitive pay and benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Collects supplementary information for client assistance, such as medical records or school reports.
  • Conducts individual, family, parenting, and group skills training sessions using evidence-based practices like collaborative problem solving, cognitive behavioral interventions, and solution-focused therapy.
  • Responsible for case management, coordinating with physicians, staff, families, caregivers, teachers, and community partners.
  • Provides evidence-based interventions tailored to clients' interests, culture, abilities, strengths, and needs.
  • Maintains awareness of community resources and assists clients and families in accessing these resources.
  • Consults with supervisor on cases involving potential abuse or other family problems affecting clients' development and well-being.
  • May provide training to staff, caregivers, and family members on mental health, addiction, and behavior management.
  • May serve as a client advocate to coordinate required services or obtain information regarding emergency/crisis situations.
  • Maintains chart notes related to external contracts, obtains pertinent records, tracks client involvement, and documents progress in treatment activities.
  • Documents and maintains client records to ensure compliance with agency and contract guidelines and confidentiality.
  • Completes documentation in electronic health record system.
  • Serves as a backup for other staff when needed.
  • Checks email/voice mail daily, responds to routine matters within 48 hours, and handles urgent matters immediately.
  • Travels between sites or in the community, may transport clients in a personal vehicle or LifeWorks vehicle.
  • Administers first aid according to prescribed procedures and notifies emergency medical personnel when necessary.

Qualifications

  • A valid and active QMHA credential certification through MHACBO.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related mental health field, or at least 3 years of prior experience working with the related population in the counseling field.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, understand mental health assessments, treatment, and service terminology, case management, confidentiality, and individual, group, family, and other counseling techniques; program policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally-competent treatment services to diverse client populations and maintain cooperative working relationships in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Previous experience in a broad range of interventions and mental health skills training specific to children, adolescents, and families.
  • Knowledge of community resources and treatment agencies enabling appropriate referrals for specific client needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Ability to master proprietary software including electronic health record system.
  • Requires access to a car and must have a valid driver's license, proof of current automobile insurance coverage, and a verified safe driving record from the DMV.
