About the role
The Skills Trade Instructor Assistant position supports the Skills Trade Instructor in providing comprehensive training and support for the Clean Tech Accelerator, a program designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills for careers in the clean tech sector.
Responsibilities
- Set up the lab for computer usage and/or hands-on training.
- Absorb and assist with lectures, labs, and demonstrations.
- Aid in delivering technical Clean Tech training curricula to trainees.
- Facilitate skills trade-related training instruction and hands-on lab courses.
- Lead discussion sessions or review sessions.
- Assist students with technical issues (online courses).
- Communicate course updates, reminders, or announcements to students.
- Stay updated on instructional methodology developments.
- Assist in developing, grading, administering, and facilitating quizzes, exams, or other evaluation tools.
- Manage classroom activities by enforcing standards, rules, and regulations.
- Act as a leader and mentor, demonstrating high values and supporting junior staff members.
- Assist in on-site solar and solar electrical installation (train-the-trainer) as needed.
- Assist in evaluating each student's performance.
- Collaborate with other personnel and service providers.
- Establish a respectful relationship with persons served, helping clients gain skills and confidence.
- Provide feedback to senior leadership regarding course progress, suggested improvements, or problems impacting program quality or stability.
- Engage with skills trade sector employers to place and support programs and training.
- Support strategy and planning related to the overall program requirements and recruiting.
- Work effectively and holistically with Career Center and other program staff to ensure appropriate client/student recruitment, maintain a 95% graduation rate, 80% job placement, and 70% job retention rates.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- An associate’s degree or higher is preferred.
- One (1) year of demonstrated experience in building and/or apartment maintenance skills, to include but not limited to electrical, HVAC/EPA, pool maintenance, plumbing and appliance troubleshooting and repair/skilled trades.
- Two (2) years as an assistant trainer of solar installation work is required.
- College or vocational training is required.
- Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office desktop applications, Gmail, Google Apps, and telephone protocol.
- Reliable, accountable, and detail-oriented.
- Valid state driver’s license and reliable transportation.
