Skilled Trades Tech III (FOSS)

About the role

Under the general direction of a manager, coordinates and may lead staff in the installation, repair, and maintenance of carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical and electrical devices, exteriors maintenance, and scheduled moves and event setup. The position works with critical infrastructure under State of Texas Executive Order No. GA‑48, requiring the ability to maintain the security and integrity of university infrastructure, including routine personnel reviews for criminal history or connections to foreign adversary governments that could affect security.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate work assignments with manager, assign duties to support personnel, and inspect work in progress and completed work.
• Perform duties of a carpenter, painter, plumber, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and/or exterior maintenance technician; assist other shops as needed, including scheduled moves and event setup.
• Provide training and technical direction to other maintenance staff and offer instruction in safety procedures and policy compliance.
• Review work orders and coordinate work to be performed with customers on campus.
• Maintain staff timesheets; prepare recurring management and work request reports.
• Ensure adequate inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies to meet unit objectives.
• Serve as essential personnel and may be assigned to special task forces during emergencies.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions (percentages, ratios, etc.). Education verification conducted upon acceptance of an employment offer.
• Minimum of five (5) years of directly job‑related experience.
• Valid Texas driver license required.
• May require technical certification or licensing directly related to the job (as specified in the posting details).
