About the Role
Set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes. Work with materials such as castings, forgings, screw machine blanks, turret lathe blanks, sawed blanks, and bar stock. Setups involve changing chuck jaws, tool holders, fixtures, boring bars, drills, reamers, and setting tools. Load CNC programs and make offsets to ensure acceptable parts. Possible placements include Auto Lathe, Vertical Boring Mill, and Broach Vertical.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes.
- Work with materials including castings, forgings, screw machine blanks, turret lathe blanks, sawed blanks, and bar stock.
- Perform setups involving chuck jaws, tool holders, fixtures, boring bars, drills, reamers, and setting tools.
- Adhere to Lean Manufacturing guidelines: one-piece flow, standard work, 6S, setup reduction, and wet process lines.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards for safety and efficiency, including cleaning chips and managing coolant/machine fluids.
- Organize work areas to established standards.
- Make decisions based on experience and available data.
- Verify and inspect own work using precision tools (micrometers, plug gages, height gages, surface plates).
- Run both CNC and manual equipment concurrently as required.
- Work effectively in a cellular, team-oriented environment.
- Follow written instructions precisely (MOS, routers, engineering drawings).
- Operate multiple machines, perform setups, load offsets, and edit programs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 6 months of machining experience with CNC lathes and/or mills.
- Demonstrated experience or successful completion of classes in geometric tolerancing.
- Demonstrated work experience in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Ability to lift, move, and manipulate fixtures and component hardware up to 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act).
- Must be at least 18 years of age due to high-risk or hazardous operations.
Desired Skills
- Ability to verify and inspect work using micrometers, plug gages, height gages, and surface plates.
- Experience running both CNC and manual equipment concurrently.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with minimal supervision.
- Excellent attendance history.
- Experience machining high-temperature materials (Inconel, stainless, titanium).
- CMM operating experience.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and teaming environments.
- Experience machining to aerospace standards and specifications.
- Optical comparator experience.
Pay
$25.50 per hour.
