About the role

The Town of Natick’s Public Works Department is accepting applications for a Skilled Laborer/Collector in the Highway/Sanitation Division. The candidate will primarily handle curbside collection of trash and recycling but will also operate multiple pieces of light and heavy equipment, perform manual physical labor in roadway maintenance, and clear winter sidewalk snow and ice. This position offers an opportunity to learn to drive CDL vehicles and other medium/heavy equipment, with growth potential.

Responsibilities

• Winter sidewalk snow and ice clearing

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License; CDL preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
• Three years of experience in construction, landscaping, building maintenance, or related field
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work in all weather conditions, and perform physically demanding labor
• Familiarity with the operation of light and heavy-duty equipment
• Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Effective communication with coworkers and the general public
• Successful completion of a CORI check and DOT pre-employment physical including a drug screen

Preferred Qualifications

• Hoisting license or other relevant certifications
• Experience with municipal or public works operations
• Sign making/line striping experience

Pay

Starting at $24.5240 per hour (Step 1). The full pay scale ranges from $24.5240 to $33.2152 per hour, with step increases outlined in the union agreement.

Schedule

Monday to Thursday (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM) and Friday (7:00 AM – 12:00 PM).
