Job Description

The skilled craft helper supports and assists skilled craft positions like carpenters and laborers. Responsibilities include assembling products, measuring and calculating materials, loading/unloading materials, preparing concrete areas, and assisting with housekeeping. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Key Responsibilities

• Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and written instructions to assemble products
• Accurately measure and calculate the size and amount of material needed
• Load, unload, identify, and distribute building materials, machinery, and tools
• Prepare areas for the placement of concrete, including excavation and grading
• Assist with area housekeeping
• Promote a safe work environment and communicate jobsite hazards
• Secure the jobsite at the end of each day and verify proper storage of site materials

Qualifications

• If under 18, must be enrolled in a relevant program compliant with local law
• Must follow Hensel Phelps safety and health program
• Experience using small power tools and assorted hand tools
• Must be able to take initiative, have a keen attention to detail, and follow instructions
• Must provide own safety footwear
• Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally
• Preferred: OSHA 10 Certification

Physical Requirements

• Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly
• Walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, standing, lifting, standing, and finger/type
• Operating computers and tablets, communicating with employees and external stakeholders
• Reading blueprints, load charts, and taking/verifying field measurements
• Climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps
• Working from heights, balancing, stooping, grasping, using various tools, operating jackhammers and pavement breakers, using wheelbarrows and brooms, and repetitive use of hands and wrists
• Exposure to high and low temperatures, noisy environments, outdoor elements, and precipitation and wind
• Use of respirators and passing medical and fit testing examinations

Compensation

The compensation rate is $20.00 per hour.
