SkillBridge: Tooling Maintenance Technician
About the role
Airbus Aerosystems is seeking a Maintenance Technician - Tooling to join our Production department based in Kinston, NC. This role is part of Airbus's SkillBridge program, designed for transitioning service members to work in a high-precision aerospace environment.
Responsibilities
- Dismantles, moves, assembles, installs, and repairs industrial machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, drawings, or verbal instructions.
- Dismantles equipment and machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
- Moves machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
- Assembles and installs equipment such as conveyors and tram rails using hand and power tools.
- Constructs foundations; aligns machines; performs scheduled inspection and maintenance.
- Sets up and operates machine tools and fabrication machinery to rework or make new parts.
- Performs root/cause analysis in support of reliability processes, and collaborates with vendors, engineering, team leader, customer, other crafts and management to solve equipment problems and develop corrective action.
- Reworks and maintains tools of all types and materials.
- Performs routine minor machine maintenance as part of their daily work duties (e.g., replacing machine filters, changing standard light bulbs on machines and equipment, maintaining lubrication/coolant levels, etc. as related to basic Total Preventative Maintenance duties).
- Repairs and builds of lay-up tools.
- Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment.
- Uses hand and power tools. Tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines and equipment.
- Uses PLC, CNC along with blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a Production environment.
- Fluent in English.
- Team working mindset.
- Willing and able to work any shift.
Qualifications
- Workkeys Assessment completion OR High School Diploma/GED.
- Move and place in the correct position heavy equipment, real property and installed property in accordance with established methods.
- Accomplish all necessary rigging.
Physical Requirements

- Daily Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
- Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
- Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
- Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
- Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
- Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
- Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
- Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
- Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
- Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
- Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
- Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
- Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.
- Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
