Sitter/CNA
Salary Range: $24.15 - $28.60 per hour. The pay range represents the lowest and highest possible rates for this position. Factors determining placement within the range include skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and comparison to existing employees in the role. Most newly hired employees are placed below the midpoint of the range.
Position Overview
The Sitter, CNA/Nurse Tech Float Resources provides safe, efficient, and therapeutic patient care for patients requiring a sitter while hospitalized, including constant observation, under the direction of a Licensed Nurse and/or Medical Staff.
Candidates may be hired into either a clinical or non-clinical Sitter position based on certification status:
- Clinical position (Sitter, CNA) – requires a valid California CNA certification.
- Non-clinical position (Sitter, Nurse Tech) – does not require CNA certification.
The posted pay range reflects the full range across both classifications, from the lower end of the Sitter, Nurse Tech scale to the higher end of the Sitter, CNA scale.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Current California Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification (required for Sitter, CNA position only).
- One (1) year of experience working as a Nurse Tech or CNA in an acute care environment or skilled nursing facility (SNF) (not required for the Sitter, Nurse Tech position).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Responsibilities
- Maintains constant observation of the patient to ensure safety.
- Provides patient care within scope of practice, promptly meeting patient needs.
- Redirects the patient as needed and appropriate.
- Promptly reports changes in condition or other concerns to the primary care nurse.
- When the patient is ambulatory, remains with them and uses a gait belt as applicable.
- When the patient is in the bathroom, remains nearby to monitor safety unless otherwise directed by the primary care nurse.
- When sitting with a suicidal patient, maintains constant visual observation, including when the patient is in the bathroom or when family members are present.
- Maintains a neat and calm environment to promote patient comfort.
- Ensures the patient does not have access to items that could cause harm (e.g., butter knife, glass).
- Documents activities accurately and in a timely manner to support quality patient care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
