Summary

This position is responsible for planning, preparing and supervising the disassembly and installation of hydro power plant equipment at field sites. The work scope includes hydro-turbines and generators as well as required control and support equipment (such as piping, electrical, painting, etc.). The position directs craft labor crews and subcontractors, and ensures work is performed safely, in accordance with technical procedures and quality standards, and within defined schedule and budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Direct foremen, craft labor, and subcontractors for clearly defined work scopes and oversee its execution
  • Supervise assigned disassembly, maintenance and rehabilitation, and installation of activities for hydro turbines, generators, or auxiliary systems
  • Support safety planning and actively enforce site safety rules and procedures
  • Perform detailed planning and preparation of assigned work scope, including interfaces and "hand-offs" with support groups
  • Interface with engineering, quality and customer to clarify technical procedures, drawings and field data requirements
  • Analyze and identify potential safety and quality risks; mitigate in planning and execution
  • Ensure materials and components are free of defects and meet specifications for installation
  • Plan and ensure availability of fixtures, tools and other required equipment
  • Ensure quality requirements are understood, measurements and inspections are performed and documented as required
  • Escalate safety, technical, quality, or schedule issues promptly to the Site Manager
  • Planning and optimization of work force capacity together with Site Manager
  • Promote professional and supportive work environment with craft labor and subcontractors
  • Identify and document deviations from plan regarding schedule and quality
  • Lead incident investigations at site for safety and quality incidents and drive corrective actions

Qualifications

Site Supervisor I

  • High school diploma required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience
  • 3 years minimum of relevant experience in construction (hydro preferred) or journeymen trades (in leadership roles – General Foreman preferred), or significant relevant educational experience
  • Ability to identify and mitigate safety risks and maintain a safe work environment for all site personnel
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy of work product
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills
  • Engage vendors and engineering personnel in defining solutions that reduce cost and risk
  • Provide leadership and ensure compliant execution according to contractual requirements while achieving defined project objectives related to safety, quality, schedule and cost
  • OSHA 30 certification

Site Supervisor II – in addition to Site Supervisor I qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience
  • Demonstrated success supervising hydro installation scopes
  • Technical understanding of hydroelectric power plant equipment, or significant experience with rotating machinery, heavy manufacturing, or heavy construction
  • Experience with identifying change work (claim) opportunities and supporting substantiation efforts
  • Provides recommendations for non-conforming materials, machined/fabricated components and assemblies as to adequacy for use in consultation with engineers
  • Conducts training and/or mentoring sessions for inexperienced personnel
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels accounting for future workloads
  • Works largely independently with limited oversight
  • May mentor Level I Site Supervisors or foremen (including General Foreman)

Sr. Site Supervisor – in addition to Site Supervisor I and II qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience
  • Demonstrated success supervising complex hydro and high-risk installation scopes, including multi‑discipline interfaces
  • Set the standard for safety culture, quality discipline, and execution excellence on site
  • Understanding of contractual terms and conditions as they relate to the leadership responsibilities for commercial project execution
  • Act as a key customer‑facing representative for execution topics as delegated
  • Coach and mentor Site Supervisor I and II, general foreman, and craft leaders (foreman)
  • Participates in preparing OTO technical proposals
  • Participate in Design Reviews, and provide recommendations for constructability

Physical Capabilities

  • This position will require a post offer physical analysis to confirm candidate is fit for duty
  • Must be able to properly wear and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – safety glasses, hard hats, hearing protection, safety boots/shoes, respirators, fall protection harnesses, life jackets, etc.
  • Must be able to properly lift 50 lbs. and carry it for 10 feet
  • Must be able to enter/exit through small entries (mandoors, 20 inches in diameter or larger)
  • Must be able to climb ladders, climb steps, etc. daily
  • Must be able to evacuate a powerhouse on foot via steps
  • Must be able to stand for several hours at a time on concrete floors
  • Job requires work in confined space and work at heights
