Your Role at Cabot
Cabot Corporation is seeking a senior, highly engaged Site Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) Manager to lead SH&E strategy, execution, and culture at our Billerica Technology Center. This role is a key member of the site leadership team and serves as the primary on-site authority for SH&E across a multi-functional, R&D-focused campus that includes laboratories, pilot-scale operations, offices, and support functions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a core member of the site leadership team, partnering closely with the Facility General Manager and functional leaders to integrate SH&E into business, R&D, and operational decisions.
- Define and lead the site SH&E vision and strategy, aligned with corporate goals and Responsible Care® expectations, translating strategy into clear priorities and actions.
- Own and maintain the site SH&E management systems (including RC14001®), ensuring effective implementation, self-assessments, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
- Drive a strong, visible safety culture through regular on-site engagement, meaningful dialogue, and leadership by presence across labs, offices, and support areas.
- Lead incident management and learning, including investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, trend analysis, and transparent communication of lessons learned.
- Ensure full regulatory compliance across environmental, health, and safety requirements, including permitting, reporting, inspections, and interactions with regulatory agencies.
- Provide clear SH&E performance insights to site and corporate leadership through metrics, dashboards, and regular updates that drive accountability and action.
- Lead site risk management, including risk assessments, laboratory safety standards, contractor oversight, capital project reviews, and change management processes appropriate for an R&D environment.
- Oversee SH&E training and capability building, ensuring robust onboarding, role-based training, and sustained competence across employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Represent SH&E on cross-functional and sustainability initiatives, supporting data collection, reporting, and continuous improvement aligned with corporate commitments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years’ progressive experience in SH&E leadership roles, ideally supporting R&D, laboratory, pilot-scale, or multi-use facilities.
- Demonstrated success leading SH&E programs with minimal oversight, setting priorities, and driving results in complex environments.
- Strong working knowledge of SH&E regulations, permitting, incident management, and management systems applicable to laboratory and technology center settings.
- Proven ability to lead through influence rather than policy alone, building trust and accountability across diverse employee populations.
- Comfortable acting as a thought partner and advisor to senior site leadership.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational discipline, analytical capability, and bias for action.
