About the role
CMI is seeking an experienced Site Safety Officer (SSHO) for a 6–8-week U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) construction project in Corinth, Vermont.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an active field presence during all construction activities.
- Conduct daily site inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments.
- Monitor changing site conditions and weather impacts on operations.
- Identify hazards and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented.
- Lead daily safety oversight and promote a strong safety culture among all contractors.
- Conduct weekly toolbox talks and site safety meetings.
- Update and maintain the Site-Specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and related documentation.
- Maintain safety logs, inspection reports, training records, and project documentation.
- Deliver new employee safety orientations and task-specific training.
- Monitor PPE compliance and maintain site safety supplies.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and property damage events while recommending corrective actions.
- Cookordination with project management, subcontractors, and client representatives regarding safety performance.
- Support project quality initiatives and assist with QA/QC inspections and documentation when needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of construction safety oversight experience within the past 10 years.
- Experience serving as a Site Safety Officer, SSHO, Site Safety Manager, Construction Safety Manager, or Construction Safety Specialist.
- Ability to obtain military installation access and security clearance.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards and federal construction safety requirements.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction card (issued within the past 5 years).
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
- Minimum of 25 hours of documented formal safety training completed within the last 5 years (exclusive of OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR/AED).
Preferred Experience
- Previous USACE construction project experience.
- EM 385-1-1 experience.
Additional Requirements
- Successfully pass a background check, drug screen, and fit-for-duty physical.
- Must be eligible for USACE government project.
- Ability to work overtime and flexible schedules as project demands require.
- Reliable transportation to the project site.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Climb ladders and work at elevated heights.
- Enter confined spaces when necessary.
- Work on uneven terrain and active construction sites.
- Lift up to 30 pounds.
- Work outdoors in changing weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
