About the role

The Site Safety Manager supervises safety programs, accident and fire protection, and contributes to the safety culture of the organization. Key responsibilities include controlling hazardous conditions, managing safety training, conducting audits, and assisting with inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Control hazardous working conditions and unsafe activities through interaction with project management/supervisory personnel.
  • Supervise safety/first aid and rescue squad activities.
  • Develop and conduct employee orientation, task-specific, and ongoing supervisor training.
  • Conduct work area safety audits, air-sampling tests for confined space entry, property damage, and personal injury investigations.
  • Evaluate and monitor confined space and "hot work" permits as required.
  • Accompany safety, health, and insurance inspections on walk-through tours as needed.
  • Review safety-related journals, catalogs, etc., to stay updated on protective safety equipment, materials, and gear.
  • Prepare written appeals for safety violation citations.
  • Manage and update third-party safety clearinghouses.
  • Assist with fleet management, including securing property authorizations, tracking vehicle maintenance, assigning vehicles to employees, and transferring between departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of construction/industrial occupational health and safety experience.
  • Profound understanding of OSHA standards and guidelines.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of worker’s compensation documentation.
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.
