About the role

Vanderlande Industries is a leading global supplier of turnkey material handling systems for the airport baggage handling, distribution center, and parcel services markets. As an Original Equipment Manufacturer and System Integrator, Vanderlande offers design engineering, installation management, and ongoing maintenance services. The Site Manager will directly manage self-performing staff and subcontractors during the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of project-related systems, reporting to the Construction Manager.

You will be the primary point of contact for electrical subcontractors, ensuring clear communication with internal project staff, subcontractors, and the customer. This role involves tracking electrical progress and quality, forecasting schedule adherence, maintaining redline updates, and resolving discrepancies in electrical design or customer standards. The position requires up to 100% travel, supporting domestic and international projects, with an initial assignment at JFK Airport.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the on-site installation team on large and complex projects.
  • Develop the project “installation” plan, including objectives, organization, planning, and cost calculations in consultation with the Construction/Project Manager.
  • Monitor and manage quality, time, costs, and provision of information.
  • Work with subcontractors/vendors to develop and maintain schedules for their respective work.
  • Identify and analyze (potential) problems/risks and opportunities, initiating corrective and preventative actions.
  • Manage interaction of site work with all stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage start-up and commissioning plans.
  • Ensure a strong HSE/EHS environment adhering to project and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Review pre-construction activities, scope, and trade partner alignment.
  • Supervise construction of process, electrical, I&C, LSS, architectural, and structural scope (CSA/MEP disciplines).
  • Ensure project deliverables are established, executed, and closed.
  • Review and approve safety field reporting (PPT, JHA, SIPP, SOR, Hot work permitting).
  • Lead teams through multiple site superintendents and functional managers to drive successful project delivery.
  • Coordinate construction within live facilities without impacting production (ITP prevention).
  • Manage daily activities of client and contractor workforce to meet project schedules.
  • Conduct periodic project site inspections and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate as-built drawings with field and engineering teams.
  • Interface between engineering and construction for resolution of technical issues.
  • Manage quality control efforts throughout the project duration.
  • Complete scope of work to client satisfaction while meeting HSE, quality, financial, and risk management expectations.
  • Advise and manage contracts of Electrical subcontractors.
  • Ensure COS processes within the project and initiate improvements in site management.
  • Perform quality checks on installation and related processes.
  • Report to Construction Manager, Project Manager, and head office.
  • Lead a team of (senior) supervisors and manage punch list items via Procore.
  • Assist with creation of Step, Pre-Activity, and Tie-in Plans.
  • Manage self-perform installations with mechanical, electrical, and steel erection scope.
  • Responsible for comprehensive project reporting, including:

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working with electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and AHJ requirements, with ability to train others.
  • Ability to read, understand, redline, and challenge electrical layout drawings, standards, and schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex control and motor wiring circuit problems.
  • Higher level of education (preferably technical).
  • Knowledge of Vanderlande equipment and systems.
  • Safety awareness for assigned scope.
  • Knowledge of necessary software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, NAVIS Works, Primavera P6).
  • Contract management experience.
  • Project planning and site organization skills.
  • International and multicultural awareness.
  • OSHA 10 certification or ability to obtain OSHA 30 upon request.
  • Ability to clear a background check for SIDA badge.

Skills

Schedule

  • This is a travel-based position supporting domestic and international projects, with up to 100% travel required.
  • Initial assignment expected at JFK Airport through at least next year, with future assignments based on business needs.
  • Night shifts and off-hours work may be required due to airport operational needs.

Pay

The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $115,000.00 - $120,000.00. Final salary offered will be determined based on the candidate's skills and experience. Eligible to participate in an annual performance bonus program.
