About the role

The Site Manager will undertake the site management of all electrical construction, maintenance, fitting and removal of substation plant and equipment. This work will be carried out in full compliance with construction drawings, documents, and specifications, adhering to published guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures to ensure satisfactory completion. The role includes managing CDM areas and ensuring the safety of all personnel on site. A company vehicle may be provided at the discretion of Omexom Management, with usage governed by the Omexom Transport Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day work program for nominated site staff.
  • Deliver Daily Briefs, Point of Work Risk Assessments, Toolbox Talks, etc.
  • Take responsibility for the team on site to ensure safe, effective, and efficient implementation of site operations.
  • Ensure all materials and supplies are procured/provided to fitters to avoid delays and maintain team efficiency.
  • Ensure deliveries are accepted only for undamaged materials and report daily deliveries for financial tracking.
  • Ensure all construction and demolition work complies with RAMS, lifting plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Manage receipt of permits and access limitations with relevant authorities.
  • Conduct basic safety inspections before commencement of works.
  • Supervise and assist with construction, maintenance, fitting, and wiring of substation plant and equipment to ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Liaise with safety and design teams to address problems and solutions.
  • Assist the Construction Manager with ongoing quality control by maintaining/completing documentation detailed within the Inspection & Test Plan.
  • Maintain and develop competence and technical skills to ensure high standards of delivery.
  • Attend required training to maintain knowledge and application of systems and procedures.
  • Deliver scheduled/unscheduled work on time and to standard in accordance with instructions.
  • Comply with all Omexom H&SE standards, Quality Standards, Operational Procedures, and Policies.
  • Perform Site Document Controller duties, including sorting and storing drawings.
  • Chair and record site meetings with clients during progress meetings.
  • Actively contribute to the team by sharing knowledge, monitoring progress, and providing support.
  • Check and prepare job reports for management and clients.
  • Promptly make safe where possible, then record all accidents, hazards, and near misses in line with Omexom Policy.
  • Lead by example in safety behavior and management; encourage safe working, hazard reporting, and innovations.
  • Report concerns regarding Quality, Safety, Health, or the Environment to the Construction Manager or nominated representative.
  • Proactively address site safety through Site Inspections, Near Misses, and Positive Interventions.
  • Ensure appropriate use of machinery, equipment, substances, transport, and plant in line with RAMS, manufacturer’s instructions, company guidance, and training.
  • Provide mentoring support to apprentices in compliance with their training and development program.
  • Proactively drive development through the appraisal system (Check-In).

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working on DNO substation sites.
  • Basic reading, writing, and maths skills.
  • Relevant accreditations for the role.
  • Good understanding of reading and interpreting drawings and documents.
  • Maintain training, experience, and qualifications as expected/outlined by Omexom.
  • Computer literate in line with Omexom systems.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Knowledge of substation health and safety procedures.
  • SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme).
  • CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
  • National Grid Competent Person accreditation.

Skills

  • Ability to take and deliver instructions to undertake tasks safely.
  • Ability to plan, check, and procure materials to maintain efficient team progress.
  • Basic understanding of major substation plant and equipment.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of drawing management.
  • Ability to understand and interpret RAMS, Drawings, and Safety Documents.
  • Correct training, experience, and competence to carry out tasks as required.
  • Strong computer/tablet literacy.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Ability to manage personal and team training.
