Site Engineer I

About the role

The Site Engineer I is a contributing member of the site‑level Data Center Operations team, assigned to one or more Digital Realty data center properties and reporting directly to the Manager Engineering Operations. The role requires experience with mission‑critical infrastructure—including generators, UPS systems, HVAC systems, fire/life safety systems, BMS systems, and CMMS—and expertise in either electrical or mechanical work, with competence in the non‑primary discipline.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to daily site operation, including creation and modification of site operating procedures.
• Create change‑management tickets and timely incident reports.
• Perform site maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure the highest level of availability.
• Gain a complete understanding of facility layout, MEP systems, equipment nomenclature, drawings, specifications, SOPs, EOPs, and customer SLA obligations.
• Manage BMS alarm functionality, escalation/acknowledgement, and extract data/trends.
• Handle DLR event management, escalation, and incident‑reporting procedures.
• Use CMMS to create, edit, implement, and close change‑management work orders and incident reports.
• Follow Digital Realty’s environmental, occupational health and safety, and maintenance standards.
• Supervise construction activity and installations as required.
• Execute site‑specific change‑management processes, including creating Method of Procedures (MOPs) for low‑risk preventive maintenance and overseeing their execution.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems and respond to unplanned events without immediate supervision.
• Conduct rounds/inspections efficiently, detecting anomalies.
• Develop or improve SOPs for site‑specific equipment.
• Support accreditation initiatives such as SSAE16, SOC2, ISO 27001.
• Complete DLR Critical Awareness Training.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in mission‑critical facilities operations/engineering or equivalent equipment experience (UPS, HVAC, generators, fire/life safety systems).
• Hands‑on electrical or mechanical skill with competence in the non‑primary discipline.
• Strong knowledge of various UPS systems and architectures.
• Strong knowledge of cooling systems and architectures.
• Understanding of infrastructure redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N, ATS/STS, failover scenarios) and associated risks.
• Knowledge of energy‑efficiency principles.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; familiarity with Microsoft Project, Adobe Acrobat, Visio or AutoCAD.
• Basic understanding of emergency situations and escalation processes.
• Ability to lift/handle up to 50 lb, bend, stoop, stretch, work under a raised data‑center floor, and climb ladders up to 16 ft.

• Understanding of CMMS, DCIM, and power‑metering systems.

Pay

Compensation range: $39.50 – $41.36 per hour.
