About the Role

The Program Coordinator supports the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This role coordinates and oversees program areas, staff, and participants, ensuring a quality experience focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements lesson plans and/or program delivery assignments.
  • Hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed in conjunction with the director.
  • Assists with review and evaluation of staff performance.
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff and engages with participants in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Leads activities for assigned groups of participants.
  • Supervises the program area to ensure participant safety, maintaining a clean and hazard-free environment.
  • Communicates effectively with parents and participants regarding program scheduling and requirements.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Completes necessary reports.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21.
  • High School diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
  • One year of previous work experience in a similar program; coordinating experience preferred.
  • Experience in teaching, recreation, childcare, or physical education is a plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience and experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • CPR, Basic First Aid, and AED certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Excellent human relations, organizational, and communication skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to remain stationary for several hours at a time and occasionally move within the office.
  • Travel to and traverse multiple YMCA Cape Cod locations, including stairs.
  • Frequent computer and office machinery operation.
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information with staff, members, vendors, and partners.
  • May require working more than 40 hours per week, potentially causing fatigue or stress.
  • Primarily works in an office setting but may travel to multiple locations and community partner meetings.
