Site Construction Manager

About the Role
The Site Construction Manager is responsible for the management, coordination and supervision of one or more AEP construction projects. Direct and administer the planning, scheduling, QA/QC, contract administration, coordination, and supervision of all construction work activities in a safe, efficient and economical manner. Provide leadership, communication and develop partnerships with internal (plant management teams) and external customers, labor contractors, suppliers, vendors, and governmental agencies.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for management, coordination and supervision of one large project or multiple small projects located at multiple sites; assign work to employees based on material and worker requirements of specific jobs; provide input to project management at the earliest stages of the project to improve schedule, design, systems, procedures and cost and to ensure proper contractor selection; schedule the project in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines.
- Effectively communicates construction project details and status reports; confers with managerial and technical personnel, other departments, and contractors to resolve problems and coordinate activities; leads planning and update meetings; establishes and maintains a cooperative, communicative working relationship with Plant Management, advising them of any real or potential impacts.
- Confers with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints and construction problems.
- Examines and inspects work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and ensure specifications are met; interfaces with and is accountable to project management and plant management to assure that project targets and goals pertaining to safety, scope, schedule, quality, cost control, and project plan execution are met or exceeded; studies job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods.
- Supports and holds employees and contractors accountable for the AEP System Safety Process, ensuring a safe working environment focused on Zero Harm; inspects work to monitor and ensure safety and environmental policies are being followed and that projects are constructed per specifications, drawings and permits.
- Coordinates with project management and engineering & design groups to ensure appropriate drawings are issued and available to support construction activities.
- Develops partnerships/relationships with AEP generation, trade union labor, contractors, vendors, suppliers and government agencies.
- Develops staffing levels of Staff Aug and direct hire personnel for projects.
- Leads and oversees the development of a site‑specific quantity tracking sheet to be used for tracking costs, schedule and invoicing.
- Provides training and guidance to others to support team goals.
- Complies with and promotes ethically sound behavior and instills a sense of shared accountability among employees.
- Seeks input from Subject Matter Experts by asking the right questions, understanding nuances, and clarifying and validating information rather than relying on personal assumptions.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, engineering technology, or related field; or Associate's degree in related field with two (2) years of relevant work experience; or High School Diploma/GED with four (4) years of relevant work experience.
