Silver Stage Elementary Pre-K Paraprofessional 2026/27

This is a one-year, grant-funded position for the 2026/27 school year, with potential continuation dependent on annual funding. There are no overage placement rights at the end of the grant period.

About the Role

Under the supervision of a licensed teacher, this role assists teaching staff in providing specially designed instruction to students with disabilities. The paraprofessional supports individual and group functional living, academic skills, vocational and behavioral management, and personal care attendant services to implement students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Additional intensive training in student data collection, communication strategies, severe behaviors, and positive behavior management for Autism Spectrum Disorders, Cognitive Disabilities, or Behavioral Disorders will be required.

Pay

• $19.27–$27.08 hourly with Employee/Employer retirement, dependent on previous experience
• $16.29–$22.87 hourly with Employer-paid retirement, dependent on previous experience

Pay Grade 23 on the Classified Wage Structure (9-month term). FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with physical tasks such as putting on/taking off outerwear, moving between rooms, using the restroom, toileting/personal hygiene care, carrying lunch trays, eating, and transportation.
• Support students in curriculum tasks as assigned by a certified teacher, carrying out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments per the IEP.
• Work with small groups of students to reinforce material introduced by the teacher under direct supervision.
• Accompany students to other locations within the school if their disability requires this support.
• Establish a supportive relationship with students without fostering intense emotional involvement.
• Serve as a resource for the student’s eligibility and IEP teams when requested.
• Assist individual students in performing activities initiated by the special education or classroom teacher.
• Support the special education teacher in data collection, observing, recording, and charting behavior.
• Monitor and report student progress to certified personnel.
• Assist students in using classroom technology and augmentative devices (e.g., SmartBoard, iPad).
• Adhere to prescribed safety standards.
• Work with students and adults in various settings on and off campus, including transporting students to programs outside their school of attendance.
• Take direction from and assist the Special Education teacher in charge of the program.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the building administrator or designee.
• Maintain regular and consistent punctuality and attendance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and DMV clearance.
• Ability to complete specialized training to meet student needs as outlined in IEPs.
• Current Crisis Prevention and Restraint Training, First Aid, and CPR Training.
• Bloodborne Pathogen and Universal Precaution Training.
• Knowledge of CPR/AED and Universal Precautions.
• Ability to work effectively with special needs students.
• Ability to interpret and apply oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks and determine priorities.
• Ability to handle unusual behavior and crisis situations.
• Familiarity with school rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Ability to complete routine records and recognize/report hazards.
• Physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
• Willingness to attend training related to IEP implementation.

American Sign Language (ASL) Expectations (When Assigned)

• Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
• Knowledge of deaf culture.
• Ability to communicate via ASL with students.
• Proficiency in accepted and designated sign languages (e.g., ASL, finger spelling).
• Ability to utilize technologies such as FM systems, hearing aids, and other assistive devices.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Strength, dexterity, coordination, and vision to use a keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.
• Strength and stamina to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods.
• Dexterity and coordination to handle files, paper, and occasional lifting of materials (e.g., files, student work).
• Reaching for items above and below waist/head level, including bending, squatting, and stooping to assist students.
• Manual dexterity and cognitive ability to operate educational technology (e.g., LCD projector, SmartBoard, iPads, augmentative communication devices).
• Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or 1/3 of body weight (whichever is greater) to waist height, perform 2–3 person lifts, and restrain students as needed per state regulations.

Working Conditions
