Essential Duties
- Completes initial occupational therapy evaluations and develops a treatment plan of care for assigned patients.
- Performs Occupational Therapy Evaluation and treatment of patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Captures and documents patient treatments, initial evaluation, progress notes and discharge summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with Hospital policies and insurance requirements.
- Provides occupational therapy treatment to restore or maintain patient’s ADL skills.
- Communicates regularly with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patient families, insurance companies and others regarding patient’s treatment and progress.
- Instructs and teaches patients in safe transfers, activities of daily living, correct ambulation, therapeutic exercises and correct usage of exercise equipment; trains family members and caregivers on various therapeutic procedures and home exercises.
Job Requirements
- Valid State of Michigan Occupational Therapist Certification/Registration and licensure.
- CPR/BLS certification.
- CHT preferred.
- Prefer OT skilled in development of orthotics/ application of splinting who has either attained their CHT or is working toward their CHT.
- Proficiency in orthotic fabrication.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy.
- Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of occupational therapy theory and techniques; Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the provision of rehabilitation services including HIPAA confidentiality and JCAHO mandates; Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation; Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate, orally and in written form, with patients, families, physicians, health care professionals, and insurance companies in the exchange of information; Analytical ability to develop treatment plans based on occupational therapy theory and incorporation of patient and physician goals; Mental ability to complete required documentation in a timely manner, deal with the concerns of patients and their families, and handle frequent scheduling changes; Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, transfer/lift/ reposition patients, assist patients with exercises, and properly operate rehabilitation equipment/devices, and access patient homes which may not be barrier free; Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
