Sign Language Interpreter - Community and VRI

Purple Communications is one of the nation's most extensive communication services for the deaf and hard of hearing communities, delivering onsite interpreting, video relay, and video remote interpreting services.

We are experiencing tremendous growth and are looking to add strong expertise to our world-class teams. This role involves providing effective video remote interpreting (VRI) and on-site interpreting for consumers while supporting the company’s mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective video remote interpreting and on-site interpreting for consumers.

Requirements

• Valid and current NAD IV/V; BEI Advanced or Master; TX BEI 3, 4, or 5; MI BEI 2 or 3; or RID certification.
• Fluent ASL and spoken English language skills.
• Ability to provide accurate interpretation.
• Understanding of Deaf culture.
• Thorough knowledge of and adherence to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Three (3) years of professional interpreting experience (preferred).
• Possess applicable state licensure or credential requirements.

Work Environment

• Must be able to work 15 hours of VRI per six weeks.
• Must have bandwidth of at least 1Mbps with uninterrupted video streaming quality.
• Must have a secure, lockable room.
• Must provide own computer equipment (laptop required; MacBook Air, Chromebooks, and AMD processors are not approved).
• Must attend and successfully complete a 4-hour New Hire Training.
• May experience extended periods of sitting, standing, walking (95-100%), keyboarding (40-60%), and viewing computer monitors, videophones, or cell phones (40-60%).
• May require lifting computers and other equipment.
• Position may require some travel.

Pay

Pay Range: $15.74–$65 per hour (based on location, education, certifications, and interpreter specialties).
