Sign and Signal Tech I

This is semi-skilled, sub-professional work in the office and field related to the installation and maintenance of various traffic control devices.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, installs, and removes various traffic control devices, including but not limited to:
  • Regulatory signs, barricades, and gates
  • Warning signs and object markers
  • Guide, preferential, and general services signs
• Performs field inspections independently, making decisions requiring independent judgment
• Completes other related work as assigned

Requirements

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a standard high school
• Experience related to traffic control device installation and maintenance is preferred
• Valid Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable for Madison County automobile insurance coverage

Skills

• Some knowledge of traffic control devices and related principles and practices
• Skill in operating standard office and installation equipment
• Ability to perform simple mathematical computations

Physical Requirements

• Must be physically capable of performing strenuous manual labor in adverse weather conditions
• Must be able to see well enough to operate motor vehicles, miscellaneous equipment, and digital screens
• Must be able to hear well enough to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
• Must be physically capable of lifting 75 lbs
