About the role

The mission is to train the next generation of providers with expertise in the care of individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD) throughout their lifespan. Objectives include developing expertise in clinical, biological, and therapeutic aspects of sickle cell disease in pediatrics and adults, enhancing research skills, and preparing fellows for real-world experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Immersed in a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional clinical experience with a robust schedule of educational conferences.
  • Receive mentorship from leaders in the field, preparing for real-world experiences.
  • Benefit from longitudinal mentorship on clinical research or quality improvement projects.
  • Gain extensive clinical training in comprehensive management of sickle cell disease.
  • Work directly with leaders in the field to further develop knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Individualized clinical experience covering acute and chronic complications, disease-modifying treatments, preventive measures, pre and post-surgical management, chronic transfusion therapy, treatment of iron overload, hematopoietic transplantation, transitioning from pediatric to adult healthcare, and providing anticipatory guidance to parents.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed training at ACGME accredited residency or fellowship programs in pediatric hematology/oncology, adult hematology/oncology internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, or medicine/pediatrics. International applicants must be ECFMG certified and H1B eligible.

Qualifications

Preference is given to candidates with a strong background in hematology/oncology, particularly in sickle cell disease. Experience in research and teaching is highly desirable.

Skills

Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and proficiency in clinical and research settings are essential.
