About the role

The Shop Technician performs proficient repairs and service on customer equipment, maintains good communication and working relationships with customers, peers, and management, and represents and sells the entire company while ensuring profitable direct labor billing.

Responsibilities

  • Repair all types of equipment that the company sells and services.
  • Update training and skills on a continuing basis.
  • Train other employees as needed.
  • Maintain a profitable billing level.
  • Follow all Shop Service Department procedures.
  • Complete all paperwork transactions in a timely, neat, accurate, and orderly fashion.
  • Communicate all options to the Shop Supervisor before proceeding with work.
  • Complete jobs within quoted time limits when applicable.
  • Have the necessary tools to perform repair and scheduled service work.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Represent the entire company at all times.
  • Pass Raymond Certification and re-certification if applicable.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record as established by the company’s insurance company, if applicable.
  • Report all accidents whether self or customer.
  • Account for 100% of available time during working hours.
  • Willing to work overtime when necessary.
  • Follow all procedures in the company’s Employee Handbook.
  • Follow safety procedures and use good judgment regarding safety.
  • Willing to work out of town, as necessary.
  • Perform other specific duties and projects as assigned by the Shop Service Foreman or Managers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent is required.
  • 2 years breakdown experience or comparable service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Must be able to be insured by Raymond West to drive a company vehicle.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, co-workers, and managers in other departments.
  • Willing to work off-hours as specific needs dictate and assume more responsibility as required.
  • Able to always exhibit professional behavior.
  • Willing to follow mandates and procedures of the Shop Service Department.
  • Self-starter.
  • Able to deal with customers on a face-to-face basis as needed.
  • Possess good organizational skills.
  • Must pass all available certificates appropriate to the position.
  • Sound working knowledge of basic D.C. electricity, basic A.C. electricity, SCR, transistor, microprocessor, simple guide, internal combustion, and diesel engines.
  • Sound working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Sound mechanical abilities.
  • Able to organize efficiently.
  • Must maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance.
  • Able to work in conjunction with other departments as needed.
  • Willing and able to learn quickly and perform accurately and neatly with a degree of flexibility.
  • Motivated to continuous self-development and training.

Physical Requirements

  • Position is non-sedentary.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • May be required to go onto job sites where construction is underway.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to smell, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $23.00 - $42.00. The specific pay offered to a candidate may be influenced by factors including relevant experience, education, and work location.
