Shop Tech

About the role

Total Safety is looking for a Shop Tech to join their safety conscious team! The Shop Tech will maintain shop machinery and equipment in excellent working order, keep the facility clean and organized, and ensure compliance with safety standards. They will assist in maintaining workflow, organizing materials and finished goods, and keeping grounds neat and orderly. Routine maintenance for the facility will also be required.

Responsibilities

• Safety: Maintain a safe work environment; wear required PPE; observe all applicable safety rules, regulations, and instructions.
• Mechanical: Assist in mechanical maintenance and repair; service and clean shop equipment; replace worn parts; use lockout/tagout procedures; refurbish and repair rental equipment.
• Fabrication: Assist Welder/Fabricator Specialists with welding; participate in pipe and plate fabrication; prepare materials; operate equipment and machinery; paint.
• Maintenance: Clean and organize the shop daily; move materials, equipment, boxes, and furniture; replace light bulbs and air filters; keep eye wash stations clean; stock medicine cabinets; perform required inspections for fire extinguishers; update MSDS books; recommend necessary expenditures and upgrades.
• Yard: Keep the yard organized; assist in cost-effective disposal of outdated equipment, materials, and scrap; dispose of non-usable parts and materials per company protocols; assist in recycling and waste disposal.
• Other: Building and grounds maintenance oversight; assist in records management and retrieval; move furniture; get supplies; replace light bulbs; general building maintenance; handle routine problems and schedule interruptions; perform all assigned duties per instructions; obey company rules and regulations; work effectively with a wide variety of people daily.

Skills and Experience

• Equivalent work experience in a shop environment will be considered.
• Must be self-motivated, flexible, and able to meet deadlines.
• Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities.

Working Environment

Work is typically performed in the shop, which is a hazardous environment. Safety considerations include electrical, heat and fire, mechanical hazards, radiation, fumes and deposits, noise, equipment operation, heavy materials moving, working in close quarters, working at great heights, and driving hazards. The employee will be required to attend several classes and seminars.

Educational Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
