About the role
At Martin Sprocket & Gear, we’re dedicated to producing quality mechanical power transmission components, material handling systems, and custom forgings with excellence. We’re seeking a skilled Shop Supervisor to oversee department operations, manage employee performance, and drive continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with time-keeping and performance management procedures.
- Oversee employee performance, provide coaching and feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to support team development and productivity.
- Aid in onboarding and training of new employees, as well as provide ongoing education and skill development for the team.
- Expedite and prioritize shop orders through the department to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with management and other departments to ensure smooth manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace, addressing safety concerns promptly.
- Identify and implement opportunities for operational efficiencies and continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
- Address and resolve production or personnel issues promptly to avoid disruptions to operations.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, quality standards, and industry regulations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment.
- PREFERRED: Experience in welding, metal fabrication, or machining, with the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, guide, and develop team members to achieve individual and collective goals.
- Ability to maintain a consistent and active presence on the shop floor, spending approximately 2/3 of the shift overseeing operations.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with shop employees, office staff, supervisors, managers, and executives.
- Able to adjust to changing priorities and unexpected challenges while maintaining productivity and focus.
- Excellent team player with the ability to work well with others and foster a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, with a demonstrated ability to promote and enforce safety standards and practices.
- Proficiency in performance management processes, including creating plans of action and conducting employee evaluations.
- HIGHLY DETAIL-ORIENTED: Ensuring quality and precision in all tasks and responsibilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
- Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively throughout the shift.
- Average math skills, with the ability to read and comprehend written instructions in English and complete logs, documents, and reports accurately.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Pay

Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
