About the role

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Pipe Fabrication Shop Superintendent to lead and oversee daily pipe fabrication operations. This role provides leadership and direction to supervisors and production personnel while maintaining clear communication between management and shop employees. The Superintendent is accountable for ensuring that all safety, quality, productivity, and schedule objectives are achieved daily. This position will oversee shop operations, workforce performance, production planning, quality compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives to support the safe, efficient, and profitable fabrication of piping systems.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Workforce Management
    • Work with management to formulate and execute all operational plans.
    • Establish clear communication between upper management, supervisors, and production personnel.
    • Direct personnel toward maximum performance while fostering accountability, teamwork, and professional development.
    • Monitor and guide supervisors to ensure performance is efficient and effective.
    • Supervise, coach, and evaluate production staff.
    • Resolve operational and personnel issues in a timely and professional manner.
    • Report production status, manpower utilization, quality concerns, and operational performance to upper management.
  • Production & Schedule Execution
    • Organize and execute all plans established by the Production Manager and Project Managers.
    • Maintain the proper flow of work throughout the fabrication process to meet customer requirements and scheduled deadlines.
    • Monitor labor, equipment, and resources to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
    • Analyze production challenges and make decisions that increase output while minimizing financial and operational risk.
    • Monitor daily labor hours and ensure accurate time charging to projects.
    • Coordinate with engineering, quality, procurement, and project management teams to achieve production goals.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Ensure fabrication activities comply with customer specifications, drawings, codes, and the company Quality Manual.
    • Ensure output consistently meets company and client quality standards.
    • Support inspection activities and corrective action processes.
    • Verify fabrication work meets all required quality expectations before release.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the fabrication shop.
    • Ensure all company safety procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements are followed.
    • Monitor toolbox talks, STAs (Safety Task Assignments), and safety training.
    • Ensure employees are properly trained and equipped to perform their work safely.
    • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Research, plan, and develop automated fabrication processes and workflows.
    • Develop and implement new processes to improve production efficiency, quality, and safety.
    • Identify bottlenecks and opportunities for operational improvement.
    • Support equipment utilization, maintenance planning, and process optimization.
  • Materials & Resource Management
    • Monitor shop consumables and production materials.
    • Order welding consumables, fabrication supplies, and specialized materials as needed.
    • Coordinate with purchasing and inventory personnel to ensure uninterrupted workflow.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in pipe fabrication, welding, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Minimum 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing production schedules, manpower, safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Experience with ASME piping fabrication, industrial piping systems, structural steel, and module fabrication.
