About the role
This entry-level position demonstrates the ability to perform basic inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of heavy equipment and related components following established procedures. You will work as part of a team to provide mechanical services that meet customer needs and departmental goals. Generally requires less than two years of experience and relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines under immediate supervision.
The role expects daily alignment with the company’s mission and core values, collaboration with internal and external resources, and participation in ongoing self-development.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic troubleshooting and diagnosing of equipment malfunctions and failures
- Assist in rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining equipment and components
- Learn how to plan equipment and component repairs
- Learn how to complete parts orders and identify parts for return
- Maintain equipment and work areas in clean, orderly condition
- Complete all repair-related documentation in a timely manner
- Work safely and adhere to all safety policies and company procedures
- Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs
- Update job knowledge through educational opportunities (e.g., Protech Technician Training Paths)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must have or acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- One or more years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience
Skills
- General knowledge of equipment, tools, and their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Proficiency with computer software, hardware, and machine electronic systems
- Operation and control of equipment or systems
- Equipment selection skills to determine tools needed for a job
- Ability to operate a conventional forklift, hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools
- Ability to quickly and repeatedly operate machine controls to exact positions
- Precise hand-eye coordination for manipulating small objects
- Ability to read, write, and understand information
- Strong listening skills to comprehend spoken instructions and ideas
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move objects and use abdominal/lower back muscles to support weight over time without fatigue
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Constant movement and use of limbs, requiring manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Ascends/descends ladders and equipment using hands and feet
- Must maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
- Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions
- Visually inspects work
Work Environment
- Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts
- May be exposed to weather extremes (heat, cold, humidity, inclement weather) when working outside
- Noise level may be loud at times
- Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment
- Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
- Performs work in cramped spaces and/or high places
