Starting salary: $82,000–$86,000 per year

Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM

About the role

The Shop Manager manages all location maintenance operations and provides shop staff oversight. Directly supervises shop staff, ensures safe working conditions of fleet supporting the surrounding School District, and assumes primary responsibility for efficient maintenance performance of the location.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and administers fleet maintenance; assists in troubleshooting problems with equipment.
• Communicates vehicle availability with dispatch and other operations personnel.
• Handles hiring, firing, salary adjustments, training, employee development, work planning, discipline, complaints, grievances, and performance reviews for subordinates.
• Works closely with the location manager and region maintenance management to report maintenance status and budget requirements; may review financial variances, repair orders, and approve accounts payable.
• Ensures compliance with State, Federal, and Company safety and regulatory requirements.
• Reviews repair orders; may order fuel, parts, and subcontract repair work.
• Initiates and implements projects to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
• Ensures maintenance technicians are trained, equipped, and motivated to perform the maintenance program safely, timely, and cost-effectively.
• Supervises bus fueling; may arrange building and grounds services.
• Completes special projects as assigned; required to perform hands-on work activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical training preferred.
• Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and bonuses provided).
• Valid driver’s license required; willingness to obtain CDL while employed (training provided).
• 5+ years of hands-on mechanical supervisory experience.
• May require lifting of 20 to 50 lbs.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Computer skills.
• Industry experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment is preferred.

Working Conditions

• Maintenance shop environment.
• Must be able to work in a crouched position or lying on back beneath motor vehicle equipment.
• Subjected to dust, dirt, and grease conditions.
