About us
The Shop Foreman – Machine Builder leads daily shop operations while staying hands-on with machine assembly, machining and fabrication of semi-custom and custom equipment. This role supervises shop personnel, drives safety and quality, coordinates workflow, and supports projects from prints/BOMs through final build, test, and shipment. Occasional client interaction and support with job estimating are included.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the machine shop, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
- Lead, mentor, and train a team of machinists, technicians, and fabricators.
- Ensure the production of high-quality machinery that meets clients' specifications and needs.
- Develop and implement strategies for improving shop efficiency and productivity.
- Work closely with the Engineering team to design, build, and test new machinery.
- Maintain strict quality control standards, inspecting all machinery for defects or issues before delivery.
- Handle the creation and management of BOMs (Bill of Materials) for all projects.
- Foster a safe and healthy work environment, ensuring all safety protocols and standards are adhered to.
- Manage shop resources, including ordering supplies and maintaining equipment.
- Handle any issues or conflicts that may arise in the shop, resolving them in a timely and effective manner.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a machine shop environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proficient in BOMs, Quality Management, and Machine Shop operations.
- Strong knowledge of machine building and design, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think quickly and make effective decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- A strong commitment to safety, with knowledge of safety protocols and standards in a machine shop environment.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, with excellent time management skills.
- Proficient in the use of computer software, including CAD and project management tools.
- A degree in Engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Certification in Quality Management or a related area is a plus.
