About the Role
The Automotive Shop Foreman is responsible for developing business through insurance adjusters, customers, and other sources to ensure adequate sales volume, reasonable department operating profit, and customer satisfaction while controlling expenses. This role directs the activities of Automotive Shop employees to perform body repairs, meet time schedules, maintain productivity levels, and uphold quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Forecast goals and objectives for the department and strive to meet them.
- Assist technician mechanics in performing technical activities, including diagnosing and repairing brake and hydraulic systems, exhaust, fuel ignition and electrical systems, suspension and alignment, air conditioning, and computer systems.
- Adequately explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals, including employees and customers.
- Continuously learn new technical information and techniques through formal training to stay current with rapidly changing automotive technology.
- Understand, comply with, and keep abreast of federal, state, and local regulations affecting Automotive Shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal and environmental updates.
- Attend managers' meetings and strive for teamwork with other departments.
- Provide technical assistance to mechanical shop department employees.
- Monitor automotive shop department employees' payroll records.
- Coordinate a prompt, efficient, and timely flow of paperwork.
- Monitor daily reports such as DOE, DOC, and sales productivity.
- Develop sales promotions and take advantage of manufacturers' inventory co-op advertising.
- Develop, enforce, and monitor guidelines for working with customers to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.
- Handle customer complaints immediately and according to dealership guidelines.
- Ensure all department purchases are properly accounted for before payment is made.
- Assist in the collection of past-due accounts.
- Enforce safety requirements and company safety policies, reporting any accidents to a manager or supervisor.
- Hire, train, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of all mechanical shop staff.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- 5+ years of automotive mechanical diagnosis experience.
- One year of supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of Dealership Management computer systems and applications relevant to Automotive Shop operations.
- Problem-solving and repair experience.
- Highly motivated and energetic.
- Excellent communication and managerial skills.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Professional personal appearance.
- Strong electrical and diagnostic skills.

Pay
The Shop Foreman position has a pay scale consisting of the following elements and ranges:
- Base pay (range not specified).
- Commission compensation based on the value or amount of closed sales, ranging from $0.00 (if no sales are made) with no upper limit other than sales performance.
- Production bonus based on individual or team performance, ranging from $0.00 (if baseline benchmarks are not met) with no fixed upper limit.
