About the Role
As a Meat Cutter, you'll help provide a well-stocked and well-maintained department while delivering superior customer service. You'll prepare, package, and merchandise fresh product daily, maintaining all department and food safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Cuts, trims, and bones meat for display or as ordered by customers, following company standards.
- Operates electric grinder, saw, knife sharpener, tenderizer, and slicer.
- Weighs, wraps, and labels product packages for counter display; rotates product as needed.
- Rotates product in meat cooler and ensures proper storage practices.
- Uses MCS technology to generate production lists and track "re-works."
- Assists customers with product questions and selections.
- Scans items on Telxon for production and assists in technical areas as needed.
- Cleans and sanitizes display cases; properly operates and maintains equipment.
- Complies with H-E-B food safety, sanitation standards, department SOPs, store operating procedures, and federal/state fresh meat regulations.
- Provides superior customer service and answers customer questions regarding products.
Duties may be modified at any time based on business needs, and employees may be required to perform other job-related tasks as requested.
Requirements
- 18 years or older.
- 1+ years of related experience and/or training.
- Working knowledge of product rotation, department/store sanitation, shrink awareness, and MS Outlook (Word, Excel).
- Meat-cutting skills (saw, grinder).
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Completion of power jack training.
- Completion of Meat Cutter learning plan and certification by trainer of the Meat Cutter Final Assessment course (#001289).
- Must complete meat cutter training and certification within 3 months if hired externally.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Work in a fast-paced retail environment with detailed and precise tasks.
- Frequently interact with customers and attend to their needs.
- Lift and carry moderately heavy loads (40–60 lbs).
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, pivot, push/pull with arms, and grasp.
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, and high-tech chemicals.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
Measurements for frequency: Constantly (5.5+ hours per 8-hour day), Frequently (2.5–5.5 hours per 8-hour day), Occasionally (0–2.5 hours per 8-hour day). Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
