About the role
The Shop Foreman oversees the daily operations of the service shop, coordinating repair orders to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality repairs that meet dealership and manufacturer standards.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct the work of service technicians, assigning work orders based on each technician’s skill level.
- Provide guidance, training, and technical support to the team.
- Perform final quality checks on repairs.
- Manage shop workflow to ensure timely completion of repairs while maintaining high quality.
- Communicate frequently with Service Advisors on repair status, potential delays, and customer updates.
- Complete complex repair orders as needed.
- Maintain organization, cleanliness, and inventory control in the tool room and designated work areas.
- Participate in daily morning technician meetings to review priorities, safety concerns, and operational updates.
- Review and coordinate technician time-off requests to ensure proper shop coverage and workflow continuity.
- Ensure open bays are utilized efficiently for vehicle repairs and productivity.
- Work closely with the parts department to ensure accurate parts identification, ordering, and availability.
- Ensure warranty punch times, repair documentation, and technician story lines are accurate and compliant with manufacturer requirements.
- Support technicians in maintaining accurate and timely repair order updates through wiADVISOR and other dealership systems.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of automotive systems.
- MOPAR experience/knowledge preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and hold technicians accountable for performance and quality.
- Ability to think strategically and identify opportunities to improve shop efficiency, productivity, and workflow.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and distribute work effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills, particularly when assisting technicians with complex repairs.
- Ability to identify workflow bottlenecks and proactively remove obstacles that impact technician productivity.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with technicians, service advisors, and management.
- Ability to monitor technician workload and maximize available shop capacity and flagged hours.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to make timely operational decisions.
- Leads by example, promoting teamwork, accountability, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.
- Maintains a strong understanding of dealership service processes, safety requirements, and manufacturer repair standards.
