Job Summary
The Shop Foreman oversees the service shop, coordinates workflow, supervises technicians, ensures quality repairs, promotes a safety culture, and supports exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to shop technicians.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and professional development.
- Aid in onboarding and training new technicians.
- Reinforce Company policies, safety standards, and work expectations.
- Schedule and prioritize shop workflow to maximize productivity.
- Maintain shop organization and housekeeping.
- Support Service Writers in developing repair estimates.
- Review repair documentation for completeness.
- Ensure technicians remain productive and properly charged to repair orders.
- Coordinate with Parts to minimize downtime.
- Conduct daily safety observations.
- Ensure PPE compliance.
- Enforce OSHA requirements.
- Report and investigate incidents and near misses.
- Ensure Lockout/Tagout procedures are followed.
- Stop unsafe work immediately.
- Expand quality: Perform final quality inspections before equipment is released.
- Ensure OEM repair standards are followed.
- Reduce repeat repairs and comebacks.
- Verify documentation supports completed work.
- Maintain electronic repair documentation.
- Review technician labor entries.
- Utilize Karmak ERP and other business systems.
- Support reporting and KPI tracking to include technician efficiency, technician retention, repair order aging, WIP, safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five years of heavy equipment or crane repair experience.
- Prior experience leading technicians.
- Hydraulic, electrical, diesel, and mechanical expertise.
- Strong communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, crawl, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
- Frequently use hands and fingers to handle tools, parts, controls, and equipment requiring manual dexterity.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally more with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
- Climb ladders, steps, platforms, and crane structures while maintaining three points of contact.
- Work at varying heights while utilizing required fall protection equipment.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, hydraulic tools, diagnostic equipment, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other shop equipment.
- Possess sufficient visual acuity to inspect components, read gauges, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Possess sufficient hearing and verbal communication abilities to communicate effectively in a noisy work environment and respond to warning signals.
- Maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform repetitive manual tasks throughout a scheduled shift.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, energized systems, grease, oils, fuels, hydraulic fluids, and cleaning solvents.
- Frequent exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, humidity, wind, and direct sunlight.
- Frequent exposure to loud noise levels requiring hearing protection.
- Exposure to dust, dirt, vibration, fumes, and airborne particles.
