Responsibilities
- Prepare ship surfaces by cleaning, abrasive blasting, and applying protective coatings to meet specified standards.
- Operate blasting and painting equipment safely and efficiently across various ship structures and components.
- Inspect surfaces before and after coating application to ensure quality and adherence to project specifications.
- Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, and safety incidents.
- Collaborate with other shipbuilding team members to coordinate surface preparation and coating activities.
- Identify and report any surface defects or safety concerns promptly to supervisors.
Requirements
- Proven experience in surface blasting and painting within a shipbuilding, maritime, or heavy industrial environment.
- Knowledge of safety standards related to working at heights, confined spaces, and hazardous materials.
- Ability to operate various blasting and painting tools and machinery.
- Ability to read technical specifications, blueprints, and surface preparation instructions.
- Good physical condition, with the ability to work in outdoor and humid environments, often on elevated surfaces.
- Relevant certifications such as OSHA, NCCER, or similar are preferred.
- A high school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in shipbuilding or maritime industry preferred.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed for project completion.
