About the role

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and directing the daily front-line operations of the outbound shipping department. This role leads a team of associates and ensures the timely, accurate processing of orders across all shipping channels, including e-commerce, wholesale, and international distribution. The Supervisor coordinates multi-channel operations to meet service level expectations and customer commitments while maintaining compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in workforce planning and coordination, ensuring adequate staffing levels to support fluctuating order volumes and seasonal demand. The Supervisor monitors labor productivity, reallocates resources as needed, and leverages the ERP system and other management tools to drive efficiency, accuracy, and throughput. They are expected to identify bottlenecks, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve processes to optimize performance. They serve as a bridge between management and the shipping team, ensuring that strategic goals are translated into actionable results on the floor.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the outbound shipping and finished goods storage areas.
  • Coordinate the daily workload of the Shipping team based on the priorities and needs of the organization as directed by the Outbound Operations Manager.
  • Foster a work environment of trust, accountability, and teamwork; demonstrate open communication and respect for all team members.
  • Work with Operations group stakeholders, Customer Service, and Sales teams to track and resolve shipment discrepancies in a timely and professional manner, expediting shipments when necessary.
  • Recommend and adjust staffing levels for each shipping zone to ensure adequate coverage to meet deadlines.
  • Coordinate the material movements and transactions for new product releases.
  • Recommend and help to develop training strategies for the Shipping department to ensure success of each new team member and continued growth of those beyond the initial 90-Day onboarding.
  • Recognize and address future training needs and gaps in existing training to ensure baseline process requirements and metrics are attained by each member of the team.
  • At the direction of Outbound Operations Manager, deliver and coordinate all necessary onboarding training ensuring each learning objective on the 90-Day Shipping Onboarding Plan has been met.
  • Work directly with the Magpul Training Coordinator to ensure all training documentation is completed and maintained.
  • Assist Outbound Operations Manager with updating and maintaining process and work instruction documentation.
  • Ensure outbound shipping accuracy so that outbound quantities, configurations, packaging requirements, and shipment methods match sales orders and comply with customer and compliance requirements.
  • Delegate expedited orders and internal inventory requests (QC hold, Discrepancies) as needed.
  • Hold team members accountable to following standard work, policies, and procedures; recommend corrective action in associates' behavior, actions, or work habits and report any misconduct to management.
  • Recognize excellence within the team in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Work with the Warehouse Support department to determine accurate and efficient methods for product storage.
  • Monitor inventory levels, ensuring that products are correctly received and stored; work closely with inventory staff to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
  • Coordinate with carriers and logistics partners to schedule deliveries, track shipments, and resolve any shipping delays or discrepancies.
  • Act as a leader for Magpul Lean initiatives, including (but not limited to) 5S, quality at the source, process control, and pull systems.
  • Inspect powered equipment for issues and follow up with appropriate feedback to leadership and Magpul Maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, correcting unsafe behaviors, and complying with legal regulations; acknowledge safe behavior.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail, data integrity, and overall accuracy; address any safety issues or concerns and report these to shipping department and staffing agency leadership.
  • Work overtime, to include weekends, as required by workload of department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of warehouse experience; relevant education will be considered.
  • Must have 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with tier 2 ERP systems, specifically Microsoft Dynamics AX or D365, is highly preferred.

  • Ability to operate common warehouse equipment (pallet jack, scale, etc.) and powered warehouse equipment (WAVE, order picker, reach truck, etc.).
  • Experience with Lean and Continuous Improvement concepts preferred.
  • Proficient in creation and adherence to written processes.
  • Proficient in basic math and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills and enthusiastic, cooperative, and positive behavior.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple departments and levels within the organization in a professional and productive manner.
  • Must be a self-starter and take ownership of projects.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.); ability to learn new programs.

Physical demands

  • Ability to work in a warehouse and manufacturing environment (temperature changes, dust, equipment, etc.).
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs.

Must be eligible to work in the United States for any employer. The applicant must be authorized to receive Technical Data and/or Technology under U.S. export control laws.
