Shipping Supervisor-1st Shift

About the role

This position provides shift leadership to warehouse and shipping/receiving operations, ensuring the productivity and effectiveness of shipping schedules and other departmental objectives established by management. The Shipping Supervisor leads a team of hourly employees, focusing on recruitment, training, development, and recognition of individual and team successes.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing leadership to warehousing hourly employees to ensure employee safety, quality, and delivery performance.
• Direct daily shipping and receiving schedules and efficient utilization of manpower.
• Interact with supervisors, operators, engineers, management, maintenance, and customers.
• Supervise the movement of finished goods through the warehouse from receiving through shipping and returns.
• Continuously measure and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Foster a positive work environment and lead problem-solving activities.
• Develop, maintain, and deliver team member development and performance feedback.
• Ensure inventory accuracy and improve operating efficiencies, including employee productivity.
• Maintain data integrity within company enterprise systems such as TMC and SAP.
• Enforce plant rules and provide corrective action as necessary.
• Support the warehouse flow of inbound and outbound shipments.
• Determine orders required to ship and generate shipping documents (pack list, bills of lading, commercial invoice, etc.).
• Coordinate shipments and maintain a cohesive working relationship with carriers.
• Provide key leadership in the annual inventory process.
• Conduct follow-up with carriers to ensure loads are OTIF (On-Time In-Full).
• Review all safety guidelines, workplace safety policies, and OSHA requirements with personnel.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Five (5) years of experience working in shipping/receiving within a manufacturing environment, including experience with shipping, receiving, inventory control, employee relations, and customer service.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
• Experience with SAP and/or TMC or other transportation management systems.
• Proficiency in personal computer skills utilizing software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience operating a sit-down forklift is strongly preferred.
• Willingness to work overtime, including weekends and off-shifts as required.
• Understanding of quality, PPE requirements, safety, and compliance with safety policies and procedures.
• Capable of advanced problem-solving and persistence to carry out job functions.
• Self-starter.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, and stand for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds and may need to use arms and hands to feel or reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, and appropriate personal protective equipment is required. The work environment is often noisy, and hearing protection is required.
