About the role

To receive and process all non-food merchandise and guest packages coming into the loading dock. To upload daily incoming packages from UPS and FedEx for company’s package receiving software. To issue or transfer all incoming packages via Houstonian Campus Package software. To handle all freight claims for any damaged deliveries. To process outgoing mail. To sort all incoming mail and packages. To receive any and all merchandise in the company p.o. Checkbook system. To properly document P.O. receiving and issuing to various departments. To call in and track shorts or damaged merchandise from vendors and to properly document status. To handle all outgoing shipments for guests or departments and process appropriate documentation. Assist storeroom clerks when needed. To maintain cleanliness and order of the receiving area as directed by the Purchasing Manager.

This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, issue and direct distribution of all non-food merchandise coming into the loading dock.
  • Properly receive, store, and issue all guest packages.
  • Responsible for outgoing mail and packages.
  • Call in returns, shorts or damage claims to vendors or freight companies.
  • Maintain purchasing receiving files and databases.
  • Move furniture and help with warehouse inventory, issuing & stocking.
  • Perform other functions assigned by the Purchasing Manager or Director.
  • Use a general shipping company’s website, such as UPS and Fed Ex.
  • Use Outlook, Excel and other unique computer programs.
  • Perform functions for food storeroom when needed.
  • Assist with materials and furniture assembly and delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 2-year hospitality or purchasing or warehouse/ receiving experience.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
  • Comply with Redstone rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities.

Physical Job Requirements

Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:

  • Physical Stamina: sit for extended periods of time, stand and walk, see and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids, enter data into computer, operate standard office equipment, use a telephone, hear and understand at normal levels and on the telephone, speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone, stoop, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Use a hand truck.
  • Hearing / Speech: effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
  • Vision: accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets, and work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
  • Literacy: analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
  • Chemicals/Agents: work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.
