About the role

The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for acting as the primary point of contact for all incoming and outgoing drivers. The clerk completes paperwork, maintains schedules, and ensures all documentation is complete and error-free. Responsibilities include verifying and recording incoming and outgoing shipments, unloading received shipments, and preparing items for outgoing shipment.

Responsibilities

  • Pull customer orders and prepare related shipping documents accurately and promptly.
  • Prepare skids or pallets for shipping and stretch-wrap completed skids.
  • Unload raw material from trucks in a timely fashion.
  • Unpack and examine incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shippers to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Route items to departments.
  • Scan material into the computer system using a scan gun and load tags.
  • Operate a forklift truck or use a hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from the shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
  • Compare identifying information and count, weigh, or measure items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Prepare and route all incoming and outgoing articles as necessary for shipment to final destination or placement in MCC inventory following established specifications.
  • Determine method of shipment.
  • Schedule freight carriers for necessary pick-ups.
  • Complete manifest paperwork for shipments.
  • Work with the Customer Service department to coordinate efforts.
  • Affix shipping labels on packed cartons.
  • Pick inventory items released for shipment from Work in Progress and Inventory.
  • Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment for optimal operation, including adjustments and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with established facility safety policies and procedures.
  • Treat all associates respectfully and professionally while maintaining the company code of ethics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum education required: high school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and a pallet jack.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents accurately, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively with customers and other associates.
  • Must be able to calculate figures using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Qualifications

  • Physical demands include standing, using hands and fingers, reaching with arms and hands, walking, stooping, kneeling, crawling, or crouching.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 45 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent walking; occasional climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
