About the role
Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare items for shipment. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material; receiving, unpacking, verifying, and recording incoming merchandise or material.
Responsibilities
- Examine contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment
- Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading and shipping orders to route materials
- Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes
- Deliver or route materials to departments, using work devices, such as hand-truck, forklift, or sorting bins
- Hardware pack-outs for projects of varying size
- Pack, seal, label, and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and postage meter
- Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages and nonconformance to specifications
- Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock
- Compute amounts, such as space available, and shipping, storage, and demurrage charges, using calculator or price list
- Process customer returns, vendor returns and RMAs to manufacturers
- Other relative duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education/experience
- Forklift certification preferred
- At least 6 months of relative experience
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug test
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer skills – experience with Outlook, Word and Excel
- Good communication skills
- Ability to accurately do arithmetic, read orders, write instructions and complete forms
- Ability to work closely and cordially with other staff associates
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand and walk for much of the day
- Ability to lift 5-25 pounds frequently and ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Standing, reaching, walking
- Frequent lifting required of items 50+ pounds
Work Environment
- Worker is subject to frequent heavy lifting and use of power tools
- May be exposed to variable weather conditions
- Other conditions may include proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery and using various tools and hardware
