About the role

Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare items for shipment. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material; receiving, unpacking, verifying, and recording incoming merchandise or material.

Responsibilities

  • Examine contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment
  • Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading and shipping orders to route materials
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes
  • Deliver or route materials to departments, using work devices, such as hand-truck, forklift, or sorting bins
  • Hardware pack-outs for projects of varying size
  • Pack, seal, label, and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and postage meter
  • Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages and nonconformance to specifications
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock
  • Compute amounts, such as space available, and shipping, storage, and demurrage charges, using calculator or price list
  • Process customer returns, vendor returns and RMAs to manufacturers
  • Other relative duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • At least 6 months of relative experience
  • Must pass pre-employment background check and drug test

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills – experience with Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to accurately do arithmetic, read orders, write instructions and complete forms
  • Ability to work closely and cordially with other staff associates

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand and walk for much of the day
  • Ability to lift 5-25 pounds frequently and ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Standing, reaching, walking
  • Frequent lifting required of items 50+ pounds

Work Environment

  • Worker is subject to frequent heavy lifting and use of power tools
  • May be exposed to variable weather conditions
  • Other conditions may include proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery and using various tools and hardware
