General Duties

  • Consolidates equipment, supplies, and packages for delivery by campus, building and priority.
  • Codifies delivery schedules that consider factors like refrigerated and time-sensitive material.
  • Sets up delivery routes using a last-in/first-out loading concept.
  • Loads cargo vans or high-capacity trucks as needed, using a forklift or pallet jack.
  • Supervises work-study students or temporary employees during loading and delivery tasks.
  • Delivers materials to various/appropriate departments on and off campus using QTrak (or current software) to track deliveries, including obtaining signatures for package receipts.
  • Receives equipment and supplies from vendors, including expensive scientific instruments and hazardous materials.
  • Handles express and overnight shipments from various carriers such as FedEx, UPS, and USPS.
  • Inspects shipments for visible damage and validates contents against bills of lading or truck manifests before acknowledging receipt and acceptance by an original signature.
  • Reports damages to carriers and vendors according to FOB coding guidelines.
  • Purchases ordered items: opens and inspects packages, checks for concealed damages, matches contents against packing slips, organizes material for final receipt and entry into Banner/current inventory system.
  • Prepares outbound shipments for pickup by various carriers (LTL shippers, UPS, FedEx, etc.), ensuring compliance with OSHA, ICC, NRC, and CDC regulations and codes.
  • Prepares bills of lading and other relevant documentation in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.
  • Contacts carriers to schedule pickups, signs appropriate documentation, and files related documents.
  • Inspects physical conditions of vehicles and forklifts for maintenance, repairs, or replacements.
  • Affords assistance in Surplus processes including: picking up items, organizing items, tagging/processing items, assisting visitors, and participating in surplus events.
  • Required to work callouts on weekends or during University holiday shutdowns.

Requirements

Valid Driver's License
Forklift Certification
