Responsibilities
- Receives and unloads incoming materials and compares information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment; may process return shipments from customers.
- Sorts, counts, packages, labels, ensures, unpacks, and processes receipts for incoming property; coordinates with Purchasing to correct any purchase order or material certificate discrepancies.
- Inspects shipments for damages or defects; records discrepancies or damages and notifies supervisor and/or purchasing personnel.
- Prepares shipments for postal or commercial conveyance; determines most economical and efficient shipping method; selects appropriate shipping container; packs items to ensure safe delivery.
- Prepares bills of lading; checks items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
- Traces lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments; initiates proof of delivery documents.
- May maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
- May operate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment; will band and shrink wrap palletized orders for shipment.
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- Works safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 0-2 years of recently related or relevant work history or training.
- Prior knowledge of postal or commercial shipping methods and procedures.
- High School diploma or GED is expected.
Skills
- The ability to read and write English.
- Forklift and overhead crane certified (Internal).
- The ability to perform basic shop math with fractions and decimals.
- Attention to detail.
- The ability to navigate company and shipping vendor computer systems — basic computer skills.
- The ability to read and follow work instructions and department processes.
- Ability to perform tasks with deadlines and timeframes.
