Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking an experienced Shipping Manager in our Salina Facility to manage and coordinate outgoing shipments and activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on outgoing shipments.
Schedule
This position works Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime on Fridays as needed.
Responsibilities
- Oversee outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
- Manage and schedule shipping of products.
- Determine space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lay out position of shipment.
- Inspect loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seal loaded truck doors.
- Inspect material handling equipment for defects and notify maintenance personnel or contact outside service facility for repair.
- Direct movement of products to storage and work areas.
- Compile records of unfilled orders.
- Post weight and shipping charges.
- Prepare bills of lading.
- Complete changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
- Review shipping operating reports and resolve operational, shipping, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
- Coordinate inspections of machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
- Develop or revise standard operational and working practices and observe workers to ensure compliance with standards.
- Initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, or disciplinary measures.
- Resolve worker grievances or submit unsettled grievances to the plant manager for action.
- Compile, store, and retrieve production data, using computer.
- Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
- Interface with other departments to ensure deadlines are met.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in shipping and material handling; management experience preferred.
- Mechanical or Assembly background helpful.
- Goal oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate a variety of forklift equipment.
- Working knowledge of AS400 software to locate and analyze product structure and parts availability.
