About the role

Loads and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site.

Responsibilities

• Load docks, delivery vehicles, and shipping containers by hand or power trucks.
• Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or manufacturing areas.
• Process, sort, and stage cargo before loading to prevent damage from inventory.
• Understand the daily operations of the shipping department.
• Operate overhead crane (50,000 lb. capacity) and forklift (up to 30,000 lb. capacity).
• Open containers and load materials into vehicles; install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
• Move raw material through the plant to its dedicated work area as requested.
• Secure lifting attachments to materials and transport load to destination or signal crane/hoisting operators to move load.
• Count, weigh, and record number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
• Attach identifying tags or labels to materials or mark information on cases, bales, or other containers.
• Operate the banding machine.
• Stack or assemble materials into bundles and band bundles together.
• Rig or dismantle props and equipment (platforms/wheels).
• Lift heavy objects (up to 30 lbs) by hand or with power hoist, and clean work area.
• Understand the rigging of material for shipment.
• Perform general yard duties.
• Use general computer skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to six months related experience and/or training.
• Basic reading/writing skills.
• Ability to read and understand all job specifications.
• Forklift experience.
