Shipping/Crater Rigger

Howden, a Chart Industries Company, is a global engineering business providing industrial products for air and gas handling with over a century of experience. We are hiring at our Windsor, CT location.

About the role

As a Shipping/Crater Rigger, you will inspect products and work from blueprints, sketches, shipping instructions, and other specifications to determine container size, shape, and required materials. You will design, measure, and cut wood to build crates for domestic and export shipping of non-standard items, including machines, sub-assemblies, parts, and accessories.

Responsibilities

• Prepare machines for shipment by securing nameplates, decals, reference tags, and coupling guards.
• Place products in crates manually or using a hoist, securing them with bolts or strapping material.
• Mark, label, and identify packaged items with appropriate markings and identifications.
• Work from work orders, verbal/written instructions, and blueprints to move goods and load trucks.
• Assemble rigging to lift and move equipment or material safely.
• Locate, pick up, transport, and deliver items in accordance with operational sequences.
• Store parts in assigned areas neatly and orderly.
• Assist with other Shipping, Receiving, and Inventory Management tasks as required.

Physical Work Environment

• Standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
• Walking the production floor.
• Reading documents to build crates.

Requirements

• GED/High School diploma.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and instructions.
• Ability to drive a forklift.
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
• Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
