Shipping Clerk I

About the role

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for recording every detail of the order, from packing items into containers to labeling them, ensuring each shipment is sent out in full and on time. Attention to detail is critical to avoiding shipping errors.

Standard hours of operation are Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm with no travel required.

Responsibilities

• Pull orders and stage products and/or loads
• Complete purchase orders
• Obtain and process product orders accurately and on time
• Facilitate accurate inventory by adhering to local guidelines for shipments and inventory of finished goods, packaging, and labels
• Maintain accurate records by computer
• Prepare regular shipping and receiving reports
• Assist in investigating inventory discrepancies
• Ensure adherence to environmental management policies
• Perform other duties as required

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Three years of in-house production, shipping, or material handling experience
• Proven work experience as a Shipping Clerk or similar role
• Forklift certification
• Ability to work with a team
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions, procedures, and policies
• Ability to lift items and containers up to 50 pounds
• Flexibility to work different hours throughout the week as needed
• Ability to multitask and pay close attention to detail in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions

• Exposure to all weather conditions, including high heat, extreme cold, rain, snow, ice, and wind
• Fast-paced, congested material handling environment with moving equipment
• Potential for drafty work areas
• Chemical exposure from handling pallets, cans, boxes of adhesive, and raw material chemicals
• Pinch hazards from moving mechanical parts on forklifts, truck doors, and conveyor systems
• Occasional work in high places using a safety harness

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Eye and hearing protection required at all times on the production floor
• Safety toe shoes (steel/composite) required on the production floor

Pay

Per the state’s Wage Transparency Act, the range for this position is $22.15–$30.00 per hour. Actual salary could be greater based on education, experience, and other qualifying skill sets.
