About the role
The Shipping and Receiving Team Lead leads daily warehouse, shipping, and receiving operations while working alongside team members to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient material flow. This position provides hands-on leadership, coordinates staffing, coaches employees, resolves operational issues using structured problem-solving, and ensures customer and production requirements are met.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate shipping, receiving, warehouse, and material handling activities.
- Spend at least 25% of each shift working alongside team members.
- Verify incoming shipments, process ERP receipts, label materials, and resolve discrepancies.
- Coordinate outbound shipments, routing guides, bills of lading, packing slips, and customer documentation.
- Load/unload trucks and ensure customer packaging and labeling requirements are met.
- Monitor warehouse organization, inventory accuracy, 5S, and safety.
- Conduct daily shift huddles and communicate priorities.
- Train, coach, and cross-train employees on SOPs, safety, quality, ERP, and equipment.
- Use 5 Whys and root cause analysis to resolve at least 70% of issues before escalation.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Planning, and Logistics.
- Maintain shipping records, premium freight tracking, routing guides, and reports.
- Identify at least one continuous improvement opportunity each week & support Kaizen.
- Maintain supplies, ensure equipment inspections & operator maintenance are completed.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2+ years manufacturing, warehouse, shipping/receiving experience; leadership experience preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems, Microsoft Office, Lean Manufacturing and 5S.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read shipping documents, perform basic math, and communicate effectively in English.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, moving equipment, and forklifts.
- Standing, walking, bending, repetitive movement, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
- PPE required.
- Flexible schedule, overtime, weekends, and shift work as business requires.
Pay
Wage range: $22-$24 per hour (experience considered).
