Shipping and Receiving Supervisor
About the role
The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor oversees shipping, receiving, and material flow operations during the assigned shift. This position coordinates inbound and outbound logistics, dock activities, and inter-departmental movement of materials to ensure efficient, accurate, and consistent execution.
Responsibilities
- Implements shipping and receiving strategies to support company objectives related to safety, productivity, quality, customer service, cost, and profitability.
- Oversees preparation of all shipping and receiving documentation and system transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Manages daily shipping and receiving activities, including loading and unloading trucks, verifying materials and products, and ensuring alignment with ASN and BOM requirements.
- Captures and maintains accountability for shipping and receiving key performance indicators (KPIs) and provides direction to associates to achieve established targets.
- Reviews customer product documentation, work orders, and shipping and receiving requests to determine materials to be staged, moved, or shipped.
- Promotes cross-functional collaboration with production, inventory, maintenance, quality, and operations teams to ensure alignment of material flow, workflow execution, and customer delivery requirements.
- Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to address operational issues, improve processes, and support overall site performance and efficiency.
- Coordinates with internal teams and external partners to meet on-time delivery expectations and proactively resolve potential delays.
- Sustains continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process gaps and implementing solutions that enhance operational performance and customer satisfaction.
- Provides leadership in staffing, training, employee relations, and performance management to develop and strengthen the shipping and receiving team.
- Maintains effective shift handoff communication to maintain continuity of operations between shifts.
- Communicates operational status, shipment priorities, and unresolved issues to the next shift and leadership, as needed.
- Maintains current knowledge of industry practices, logistics trends, and operational standards through ongoing professional development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's Degree preferred. Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience required or training in the field of shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, or production environment preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of organizational policies, standards, and procedures related to manufacturing and warehouse operations.
- Understanding of supply chain processes from raw material receipt through finished product shipment.
- Knowledge of inventory management practices, including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
- Familiarity with material handling, logistics coordination, and warehouse operations.
- Understanding of day-to-day operations within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills preferred.
- Ability to lead teams, drive accountability, and manage performance.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Primarily works in a production and/or warehouse environment, with time also spent in an office setting.
- Frequent walking and standing required.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
Pay
The expected salary range for this position is $70,304 - $85,000 annually. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan and for a full benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; basic term life, AD&D, Short- and Long-term disability; EAP; 401(k) retirement savings plan; PTO and paid holidays.
