About the Role

Perform all material handling and shipping & receiving functions efficiently. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the shipping and receiving department, including SAP transactions, and lead Materials department personnel assigned to the shift.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all shipping and receiving functions in SAP.
  • Perform material handling tasks.
  • Maintain and report on the condition of all forklifts; notify supervisor of needed repairs.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and training of shipping personnel.
  • Conduct shift-to-shift pass down/handoff.
  • Maintain quality standards and perform 5S activities.
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain shipping and receiving department files.
  • Collaborate with the Materials team and shipping/receiving team to ensure on-schedule customer deliveries.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Industrial or manufacturing experience with 12 months of floor operation experience preferred.
  • One year of forklift experience required.
  • One year of prior shipping and receiving experience preferred.
  • Ability to become Tenneco forklift certified is required.

Skills

  • Ability to operate a forklift and maintain a valid license for the position.
  • Knowledge of forklift safety regulations.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand directions, shipping/receiving paperwork, and complete shipping audits, U-tags, etc.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information orally and in writing.
  • Computer skills, specifically in Windows-based office programs.
  • Basic SAP skills, particularly in shipping/receiving, or ability to learn.
  • Flexibility to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision but respond to directions/requests and perform effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to train new employees.

  • Must demonstrate competence on a continuous basis through testing, training, and communication.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing environment with artificial lighting, machine/equipment noise, mechanical parts, some welding exhaust, non-controlled temperatures, and required PPE.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration.
  • Warehouse, dock, and plant areas with exposure to outside weather, constricted work areas, and pathways.
  • Fast-paced work environment.

Physical Demands

  • Extensive sitting and climbing on and off forklifts.
  • Good visual ability, including color-coding distinction, close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
  • Some pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to move about the plant and walk 15-20 feet multiple times per shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to raise and lower dock plates with one arm up to 150 lbs.
