Gulf Copper's primary business is the repair and refurbishment of marine vessels, ship construction, and fabrication for transportation, government, and oil and gas markets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Examine contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment
  • Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes
  • Determine shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates
  • Deliver or route materials to departments, using work devices, such as hand trucks, conveyors, or sorting bins
  • Pack, seal, label, and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and postage meter
  • Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damage, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock
  • Contact the carrier representative to arrange and issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials
  • Compute amounts, such as space available, and shipping, storage, and demurrage charges, using calculator or price list
  • Be capable of coordinating PTD and ILS

Required Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree in business administration and/or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge and experience in relation to Purchasing and Receiving
  • Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures

Working Conditions

Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy weather, combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.

Necessary Equipment Operation

Accounting and/or Purchasing Applications Software.
