About the role
This position handles scheduling of trucks with third-party carriers, generates proper paperwork for material receipts and shipments, and ensures positive truck flow through the facility for both inbound and outbound operations. The role is responsible for timely and accurate load build and shipment of customer material to meet delivery specifications, minimize freight costs, maintain accurate inventory, and facilitate effective communication with internal production, sales, and corporate transportation teams.
Responsibilities
- Communicates with carriers and schedules appointments for inbound/outbound loads; follows up with carriers, sales, scheduling, and quality teams.
- Accurately receives material into inventory, unloads and stores material in proper locations, and performs receiving transactions.
- Stages machines for work in process and accurately performs system transactions.
- Stages loads and loads trucks with products to meet delivery dates.
- Performs shipping transactions across various computer applications to meet customer requirements.
- May transport product between plants and warehouses, depending on the facility.
- Communicates potential supply problems to supervisor and purchasing.
- Coordinates with outside departments on shipping and receiving activities.
- Ensures proper receipt of coils into the computer system, including data entry, load building, printing bills of lading, and completing export papers.
- Receives, stores, and issues tools and materials for plant-wide use, performing accurate system transactions.
- Maintains logbooks for issuing certain production components.
- Trains and mentors other shipping and receiving employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Desired experience with inventory control.
- Working knowledge of PC and Windows operating systems.
- Average computer skills and excellent forklift/material handling skills.
- Basic math skills for verification of receipt quantities.
- Working knowledge of applicable shipping, receiving, and inventory computer transactions for update capability.
- Functional knowledge of additional shipping, receiving, and inventory applications for information review.
- Ability to train, coordinate, and communicate effectively with all departments.
- Familiarity with all shipping-related paperwork and associated system transactions required for daily activities.
- Leadership ability and potential need for advanced knowledge of plant-wide production, purchasing, and maintenance activities to facilitate stocking and issuing of MRO items.
- 6 months of previous material handling experience or equivalent knowledge.
- 2–5 years of prior shipping/receiving experience.
- Standard safety training.
- 1–3 years of previous leadership experience.
- Familiarity with Lean Principles: Problem Solving, Flow, Standard Work, Kanban, SMED, and 5S.
